About Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is a method of practice that consists of a dynamic sequence of physical postures linked together by the breath.  This synchronizing of breath and movement is at the heart of the practice, heating the body from the inside out, and purifying and detoxifying the body and mind. The set sequence of postures allows for a steady and consistent approach, as each asana is worked with one by one.  Ashtanga Yoga is best practiced with consistency as it is the continued repetition of practice, abhyasa, that offers a unique lens for us to view ourselves through, allowing for greater Self-understanding , growth, and healing.

 

The Mysore Method

In the Mysore room, each student moves through their own personal practice while having the support of community practicing alongside.  Students work within the sequence of postures, at their own pace, in their own way, while receiving individual guidance and attention by a qualified teacher. This helps to grow  a trusting relationship between teacher and student and allows for a intimate and personalized approach to sadhana.

This kind of daily commitment makes space for exploration on all levels of the self, from the most gross layers to the deepest most subtle realms.   Through regular practice, unconscious habit patterns and self limiting beliefs start to unravel and we have an easier time catching a glimpse into what is possible when we move Beyond.
